Project Overview
Designing this EDC device for Indian conditions began with a research to understand the real-world interactions and everyday usage patterns of merchants and customers in high-traffic payment environments. The research clearly highlighted a critical friction, the need to physically swivel the device toward the customer during payment, disrupting the flow and efficiency in high-traffic environments such as retail counters and service points. This insight led to the development of a defining design element: a central pivot that anchors the product within the hardware product architecture. Inspired by the precision hinge mechanisms of astronomical telescopes, the pivot became both the functional core and an expressive signature within the industrial design language. The design language was carefully developed around this hinge, with precise detailing and controlled transitions resulting in a cohesive, well-resolved form ideal for scalable industrial manufacturing. Translating this concept into a manufacturing-ready design demanded close and continuous collaboration between design and engineering teams throughout the product development cycle. Rather than working around constraints, the process embraced them, aligning structure, mechanics, and tooling through a shared commitment to durable product design principles and production feasibility. The result is a solution that is not only manufacturable at scale, but remains faithful to the original design intent, balancing performance, longevity, and refinement for real-world deployment in Indian payment ecosystems.

By aligning industrial design with mechanics and tooling, we delivered a production-ready EDC device built for high-traffic Indian use.
