Saibal Datta
Sharad Chauhan
It all began when two individuals decided to quit their corporate jobs to fulfil a dream. Sharad Chauhan and Saibal Datta met while pursuing their undergraduate program at the Symbiosis Institute of Design in Pune. Sharad studied Industrial Design, and Saibal studied Communication Design with a specialisation in User Experience. During college, they collaborated on multiple projects and initiatives, discovering the value of a multidisciplinary design approach through cross-pollination of ideas and disciplines. Beyond their individual specialisations, both were driven by a shared curiosity to experiment and challenge the traditional, silo-based design education model.
Following their formative years in design college, they went on to work with leading global brands. Sharad worked extensively with global design studios such as Whirlpool GCD and Samsung Design Delhi as an Industrial Designer. Saibal began his career with design agencies before leading design teams at Infosys CDG, Grameenphone (a Telenor Group company), and the Adobe India Design team. This global exposure not only sharpened their design acumen but also provided deep insight into international design standards, scalable design systems, and mature design operations culture.
In 2015, they came together to establish GDD, a founder-led industrial design studio envisioned as a single space where physical and digital product design could coexist seamlessly. Drawing on over 30 years of collective experience, GDD was built to deliver product design strategy in India that bridges concept, engineering, and manufacturing. Today, GDD operates as one of the leading industrial design studios in India, partnering with leadership teams to build products defined by clarity, rigour, and long-term impact in real-world conditions.
