The lift design project began with a simple yet powerful idea: the moment one steps into a lift, they briefly enter a different world. As a transitional space; enclosed, fleeting, and immersive, it presented an opportunity to inspire rather than merely transport through experiential design. While the experience needed to feel elevated, it was equally rooted in designing for real-world use, accounting for daily frequency, varied users, and long-term durability in public and commercial buildings.

The concept evolved around the idea of a chamber or capsule that carries you from one place to another, much like a spacecraft does in science fiction. Space and science fiction have long been quiet yet persistent influences on our studio’s thinking, shaped by formative references such as ‘Star Trek’ and ‘2001: A Space Odyssey.’ These cues, embedded deep in our collective subconscious, found a natural expression here, translated into a design language that feels futuristic yet familiar for everyday users.

At a more tangible level, the challenge was to reimagine sheet metal beyond its conventional, utilitarian role within the industrial product design. Through a rigorous design for manufacturing approach, the material was shaped to perform reliably under Indian conditions, where high footfall, temperature variation, and wear demand resilient solutions and structural durability. Informed by climate-responsive design and durable design principles, careful surfacing, disciplined detailing, and controlled geometry elevated an everyday material into a refined, immersive environment suitable for long-term public use.

The result is a lift interior that balances imagination with practicality, an experience-led space that performs consistently in the real world, while subtly shifting perception, even if only for a few moments during everyday movement through buildings.
